Various communication protocols supported directly or via drivers

Supported Protocols

Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast (ADS-B)

Automatic dependent surveillance – broadcast (ADS–B) provides a method for tracking aircraft via satellite navigation.  The aircraft periodically broadcasts its location via the ADS-B protocol to other aircraft as well as ground stations.  Limelight XE's ADS-B driver provides support for receivers that utilize either GDL-90 (Garmin) or Mode-S Beast (Jetvision) protocol formats (via TCP or UDP transport).

Automatic Identification System (AIS) Protocol for Ocean Vessel Monitoring and Tracking

Automatic Identificaction System (AIS) protocol is a tracking and monitoring protocol for ships and sea going vessels.  The Limelight XE AIS driver fully supports all 27 message types including base station reports, class A and B position reports, static and voyage data reports, aids-to-navigation (ATON) messages and more and is fully integrated into the object tracking and logging subsystems.  The driver supports National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) 0183 protocol via UDP and TCP transport protocols supported by most AIS receivers (both base stations and ship borne).

Modbus TCP/IP

Modbus TCP is a version of the popular protocol for Ethernet.  Modbus is a standard industrial control protocol often used for monitoring and controlling PLC based systems.

Open Street Map Automatic Navigation Directions (OsmAnd) Protocol

The Open Street Map Automatic Navigation and Directions protocol is an open standard used by iOS and Android applications such as Traccar to track people and mobile phones. The Limelight OSMA driver fully integrates this protocol with the internal object tracking and logging subsystems to track and monitor a mobile phone.  The Traccar open source mobile app is available for iOS and Android (2 versions) from their respective stores.  See this link for details on how the protocol works.

Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)

Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is an Internet Standard protocol for collecting and organizing information about managed devices on IP networks and for modifying device settings and behavior.  This includes all types of networking equipment as well as industrial automation devices such as relays.  The Limelight XE SNMP driver directly supports this protocol and provides real-time monitoring and traps for monitoring or controlling networked devices.

Syslog Protocol

Network Message Logging (Syslog) Protocol is a standard that allows hardware and software generated messages to be passed via UDP to any system monitoring the port (default 514).  The Syslog driver allows Limelight XE to intercept and filter (via a special filter file) Syslog messages and pass them into the internal logging mechanism.  It also can set alarms based on the message severity level which can also trigger procedures.  This along with the SNMP driver provide network management tools useful for any size infrastructure.
