Limelight XE Logo Limelight XE™ Licensing

Overview

The limelight XE system is licensed and unlocked via a license server that is in communication with all installed instances of Limelight XE's ACE engine.  It periodically requests license and revision information from this remote server to both validate the license and push notifications to system administrators for important updates or information.

Strasis Systems has adopted a subscription model that utilizes a lease with a set expiration date for all paid licenses... this expiration date is updated automatically as long as monthly or annual subscriptions are in good standing (e.g. paid to date).  If a subscription lapses, fails to bill correctly or is cancelled, the license will automatically expire at the end 30 days from the last valid update.  This provides a grace period to fix the subscription if the failure to renew was in error.  Free (basic) licenses are perpetual (do not expire) and can be reinstalled at any time if a paid license is deactivated due to cancellation or payment failure.

To facilitate easy installation, the actual encrypted license file is transferred automatically between the license server and the installation and identified via a software key.  A license file can also be manually installed in the event that access to the Strasis Systems license server is restricted or failed to correctly find the license.  The license key uses a Globally Unique ID or GUID in combination with an administrator's email which identifies the license to the server. The key looks like this example:

{CB197BE6-51FE-43E8-9C15-1E918258DB60}

This key is delivered by email and / or through the purchasing system of the Strasis Systems website.  The basic license is free and never expires (no lease) and provides basic functionality for all subsystems and drivers.  It is acquired simply through registering the installation which returns the activation key via the supplied email address.  Once the key is entered into the license management page of the console, the server will request the encrypted license file from the license server, install it and unlock the software.

Note that if the license file is corrupted, missing or altered in any way, the system will lock and require support from Strasis Systems to repair.
